GB Tours binding in style with Morgana
GB Tours Ltd., Birkenhead, organise coach tours across the whole of the UK. Due to its frequently changing and evolving holiday offers, the company handles all printing and mailing requirements in-house. Recent additions to its equipment line-up have included booklet making and guillotine equipment from Morgana.
GB Tours was established in 1984 to offer concert tickets and coach travel packages to people in and around Merseyside. Now, over 30 years later and still owned and operated by the original partners, the business offers over twenty different pick up points throughout England and Wales. These days GB Tours provide day trips, mini breaks and longer coach holidays to locations throughout the UK and Ireland to around 50,000 passengers annually.
Commenting on the new additions to its print department Andy Bickerstaffe, General Manager, said: “We had been using four Xerox print engines, each equipped with an in-line booklet maker, but these were very limited to the format that they could produce – just A4 or A5 portrait. We wanted to update our brochure design to an A5 landscape format and this wasn’t suited to the equipment that we had. Our Xerox supplier, Zen, recommended Morgana equipment to solve the problem.
“Morgana’s standalone BM2000 booklet maker handles our needs perfectly and allows us the flexibility needed to be able to stitch the product along the narrow side of A5.
“The change in design means that we are able to print four pages to view on an A3 sheet before guillotining the print down to two double-page spreads, inserting them into the feeder, and producing our finished brochures. This has actually helped us to reduce our print costs, even though we are now using more colour throughout the publications.”
The new design went into production in January of this year, with the company’s first mailing involving some 20,000 brochures. “Customers like the new look and response rates have been very strong,” said Andy Bickerstaffe.
Variable information is produced in a variety of mailings during the year to some 28 different customer areas of the country. Mailings consist of the latest holiday offerings as these can change as the year progresses due to demand. All mailings are handled 100% in-house in order to produce the most up-to-date printed product whilst keeping a tight rein on costs.
Commenting on the new look for the company, Andy added: “The finished brochures look far more professional in the new format. We are getting an increased response thanks to the changes, and are looking forward to producing more mailing products throughout the rest of this year.”
In today’s demanding printing environment, a flexible solution to booklet production is a must for all printers. Often there is a need to produce booklets from both digital presses and litho machines, or where covers have been coated or laminated.
Prints from digital devices come pre-collated, whereas from an offset press they require sorting or collating. All this is a challenge for the finishing devices in order to keep a good workflow and maintain productivity.
The Morgana System 2000, with its versatile configuration and options, can manage these challenges efficiently, to give a highly productive solution.
