Impression IT Adds Morgana DigiBook 200
East Sussex-based digital printing specialist Impression IT runs with a staff of five from its St Leonards office. The company works with clients from around the world, specialising in high quality printing and last-minute delivery all over the UK and beyond.
Commenting on its business, company owner John Davis (left) said: “The vast majority of our production is focused on training materials. These are typically short-run books that need to be durable.”
In addition to its training focused customers the company also produces work directly for authors seeking a self-publishing partner.
The business needed a more robust binding solution to replace a hot-melt perfect binding system.
“Our customers can order anything from 25 up to 500 books from us, often at short notice. Whilst they are not huge runs, these publications are the key ingredient of their training courses so they have to be presentable, durable, and able to last the pace,” added John Davis.
John explains that he had been searching for the most effective solution for sometime. Whilst he was attracted to the DigiBook 150 product from Morgana Systems, it did require manual feeding. The introduction of the DigiBook 200, offering significantly more automation, provided the perfect machine for the job.
John Davis concludes: “PUR binding is the ideal solution for finishing these products. It also allows us to use a wider range of substrates – particularly heavier stock weights and coated materials.”
The DigiBook 200 handles spine lengths from 110 to 320mm and the maximum thickness is 50mm. Retractable spine milling means that the device can go from soft- to hard-cover binding at the flick of a switch. Side gluing for the cover hinge is adjustable depending upon the cover style required.
Demand for PUR binding from digital printers has been growing swiftly in recent years. The DigiBook range from Morgana Systems has proved extremely popular with print operations seeking a more effective and substantial bind than that offered by regular hot-melt devices.
“We have been delighted with the results that we can now produce using the DigiBook 200, and have been impressed by the service received from Morgana’s service team.”
Printing at Impression IT takes place via two Canon printing units – a 135 monochrome machine and an ImagePress 6010. The company also runs a Mimaki large format unit.
Passing comment on this latest machine order from the PUR range, Ray Hillhouse, Sales and Marketing Director at Morgana Systems, said: “We have been delighted over the last year with the reception of the DigiBook 200. The product offers the ideal solution for print businesses seeking quality PUR binding for short-run work with an effective level of automation.”
